My name is Nickolai and I was born in Sofia, what was then the capital of Communist Bulgaria. My family fled from behind the Iron Curtain and made their way first to New York City and then to sunny California, where I spent the bulk of my young life. I studied theatre in Santa Cruz, California and Chicago, Illinois, where I obtained a Bachelor’s degree.
I still remember my first visit to Berlin at the tender age of 12. The Berlin Wall was still up and it left an indelible impression on me. Many years later, in 2005, I settled in Berlin and began guiding tours straight away. Since then I have garnered a reputation as one of Berlin’s most knowledgeable and personable guides.
When not traveling to exotic places or acting in Berlin’s theatres, I lead the following tours: City Tours, Cold War, Third Reich, Jewish Tours, Alternative Tours, LGBTQ+ Tours, Sachsenhausen, and Potsdam.
