My name is Sam, and I am originally from Scotland. I earned my BA in History in 2013 at the University of Glasgow, before moving to Berlin to study my Masters Degree in Global History. While it was education that brought me here, I decided to stay for the culture, the food (not forgetting the beer of course), the diverse friends I had made in the city, and the chance to share my passion for Berlin’s history with people from around the world.

I offer tours by foot or by bike on various facets of Berlin’s past and present. The Cold War, the Berlin Wall, and the history of East Germany are particular favourites, and formed the basis of much of my academic research. But I’m also qualified to lead tours at the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial just outside Berlin, and take the responsibility of guiding guests through the dark intricacies of the Third Reich and the destruction of the Second World War very seriously. On a different slant, I can also show you some of Berlin’s vibrant street art and graffiti, on a journey through some of Berlin’s more alternative neighbourhoods, away from the main tourist sites. I even lived with a graffiti sprayer for a while! I’m also constantly exploring the best hidden spots to eat in Berlin, so would love to design a tour around that for you.

Outside work I like biking, climbing, skiing and mountaineering, and there is a part of me that wishes Berlin had some more hills nearby. In fact the largest hill within the city limits is made of piled up rubble from the ruins of the Second World War.
