Martin Lange

Martin Lange

Hi, my name is Martin. I was born in the city of Potsdam in East Germany in 1986 and have always lived in and around Berlin. The city has so much to offer and I would love to show you around. As a kid of the ‘90s who grew up with American media, you won't be able to detect a German accent.

History became my passion in school. Our teachers took us to the most interesting museums in Berlin and places in Germany and a few neighboring countries. I went to school just outside of Berlin in a town called Oranienburg. After school, I studied English and Social Sciences at Humboldt University. At the same time, I started working at the Memorial and Museum of Sachsenhausen, the former concentration camp in my hometown - and ended up working there for 11 years. I was fortunate enough to have met and talked to hundreds of survivors - mainly of Sachsenhausen and I see it as my responsibility to share their stories.

This is how the Third Reich period and Sachsenhausen, as well as Jewish history and Holocaust education, became my main topics. However, with my East German background, I also have a broad understanding and a lot of personal stories to share about the Cold War era.

The Prussian history of Berlin and Potsdam are also passions of mine. I can tell you all about the Friedrichs, the Wilhelms and the Friedrich Wilhelms.

In addition to all that, I love taking people to special places for food and wine or beers.
