Hello, I’m Mikhail, a professional Berlin guide with a background in languages and psychology. Alongside my work as a guide, I am also involved with a medical charity.
Originally from Russia, I have called Berlin home since 2017. My experience as a guide goes back quite a bit further, though. I first started guiding in Moscow in the late 1980s, which means that the Cold War is not only a subject I have studied — it is a period I remember very well. Perhaps that is why it remains one of the topics closest to me.
On my tours, I try to bring Berlin’s complex history to life: from Prussia and the Weimar Republic to the Third Reich, the Cold War, the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification. I believe history becomes much more interesting when it is not simply a collection of dates and facts, but a story about real people, their choices and the world they lived in.
In addition to general Berlin tours, I offer tours of Potsdam, Jewish Berlin and the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial.
One of the things I find remarkable about Berlin is how visible its history is. Few cities have so many historical photographs, information panels, memorials and plaques woven into the streets themselves. I like to build on this during my tours, using my own collection of photographs and other visual material to help connect the Berlin of today with the city of the past.
Most of all, I enjoy meeting people from different parts of the world and helping them discover Berlin in a way that is informative, engaging and relaxed.
