Pip Roper
My name is Pip (Philippa), and I have lived in Berlin since 2013. I’m originally from Merseyside, UK and studied history at the University of Liverpool before moving to Edinburgh to complete my Masters degree in Gender History. Whilst in Edinburgh I worked at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, which gave me a taste for talking to people about history publicly.
Berlin’s reputation preceded it and the pull of such a fascinating place proved too much! When I arrived here I started off giving public tours of the city and Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial & Museum and have happily been giving more focussed tours to private clients over the years. I love getting to explore the role of gender, Women’s history and applying a post-colonial lens to the world we see around us.
Happily I’ve have never been disappointed since moving here in 2013, the sheer amount of scenes, people, niche interests that are open to be explored here. Not to mention HISTORY! I truly believe Berlin is the best city in the world to be a tour guide, especially when talking about the twentieth century. We can be talking about the reach of Empire, the darkest steps of humanity or the global impact of the Cold War, all through the lens of Berlin!
I would love the opportunity to share my passion for this incredible city with you!
